Dhubri election results 2026: Congress’ Baby Begum wins by 68,661 votes, defeats AIUDF

NEW DELHI: Baby Begum of the Indian National Congress won the Dhubri assembly seat in Assam, defeating Nazrul Hoque of the All India United Democratic Front by a margin of 68,661 votes. Begum secured 1,18,362 votes, while Hoque polled 49,701.

Uttam Prasad of the Bharatiya Janata Party finished a close third with 49,654 votes, just behind the AIUDF candidate, making it a tight contest for the runner-up position. Other candidates, including those from the Rashtriya Ulama Council and the Socialist Unity Centre Of India (COMMUNIST), secured marginal votes. NOTA recorded 1,386 votes.

Dhubri, a general constituency in Assam’s Dhubri district, has a history of exceptionally high voter participation and closely watched contests. In 2021, AIUDF’s Hoque had won the seat by a massive margin of over 77,000 votes with a dominant vote share, making the 2026 result a decisive turnaround in favour of the Congress.

The 2026 Assam assembly elections recorded a historic turnout of 85.9%, the highest since 1951. Women voters registered a turnout of 86.5%, higher than men at 85.3%, reflecting strong electoral engagement across the state.
