Spike in Covid-19 cases: Leaves of doctors, nurses in Kashmir Valley cancelled

Authorities in Kashmir on Monday ordered cancellation of leaves of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in the valley hospitals in view of the spike in Covid-19 cases in the union territory. In an order issued here, Director Health Services, Kashmir, asked all the chief medical officers/medical superintendents and other territorial offices falling within the jurisdiction of the Directorate to cancel the leaves amid upsurge of the pandemic.

Section 144 imposed in Mumbai amid spike in Covid-19 cases

Amid the rising number of Covid-19 cases, the Mumbai Police has imposed Section 144 in the city from April 5 to April 30. The prohibitory orders will come into effect at 8pm, the police said. The rest of the time (i.e between 8pm and 7am on weekdays) and also between 8pm on Friday and 7am on Monday, nobody would be allowed to move in any public place without valid reasons.

China administered 139.97 million Covid-19 vaccine doses as of April 4

China had administered 139.97 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of Sunday, the national health commission said on Monday. That is up about 3.29 million from Saturday's total of around 136.68 million doses.

Covid-19 cases reach record high in India

India recorded an all-time high of 1,03,558 coronavirus infections in a day pushing the nationwide Covid-19 tally to 1,25,89,067, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Monday. The single-day rise in cases surpassed the earlier peak of 97,894 infections reported on September 17, last year, making it the highest since the pandemic began in India, while the death toll increased to 1,65,101 with 478 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. Registering a steady increase for the 26th day in row, the active cases have increased to 7,41,830 comprising 5.89 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 92.80 per cent, the data stated.
