A record 3,780 fresh Covid-19 fatalities were registered in a single day in India taking the death toll to 2,26,188, while 3,82,315 new coronavirus infections were recorded, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday. Karnataka govt mulls full lockdown after May 12

With Covid cases still on the rise despite one week of curfew, the state government is actively considering the option of imposing a complete lockdown at least for two weeks after May 12, official sources said. The two-week curfew from April 27 is seen to have yielded partial results, with the government allowing many sectors, including manufacturing, construction and garments factories, to operate with 50% staff and vehicle movement virtually remaining unchecked. The Covid surge is also continuing probably because of people’s recent exodus from Bengaluru to the hinterlands due to the curfew.

US 'doing a lot for India' to meet Covid crisis, US President Joe Biden says
President Joe Biden has said that the US was "doing a lot for India" by sending it oxygen and materials to make anti-Covid-19 vaccines. He said on Tuesday that he had spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and "what he needs most is, he needs the material and the parts to be able to have his machines that can make the vaccine work. We're sending them that. "We're sending them a lot of the precursors," he added, referring to the ingredients needed for making the vaccines. Vaccination: No advisory yet on spotting adverse events, reporting dips sharply

Reporting of adverse events after vaccination against Covid-19 has dropped significantly to almost 25% or one-fourth of what was being reported in early March, even as vaccinations peaked during mid-March to mid-April after government extended coverage to population above 45 years. While the government is yet to issue an advisory on identification, management and treatment of serious and severe adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs), experts have expressed concerns over the significant drop in AEFIs.
