Coronavirus live updates: Oxford Covid vaccine 'safe and well-tolerated' in older age groups

Results from an early-phase clinical trial of a Chinese vaccine candidate, CoronaVac, revealed that the formulation appears safe and induces an antibody response in healthy volunteers aged 18 to 59 years.

Bengaluru's Covid-19 case fatality rate (1.1 per cent) is the lowest among all major cities in the country, Karnataka health minister Sudhakar K said on Wednesday.

Sinovac Biotech's experimental Covid-19 vaccine CoronaVac triggered a quick immune response but the level of antibodies produced was lower than in people who had recovered from the disease, preliminary trial results showed on Wednesday. While the early to mid-stage trials were not designed to assess the efficacy of CoronaVac, researchers said it could provide sufficient protection, based on their experience with other vaccines and data from preclinical studies with macaques.

Thirty-seven new cases of novel coronavirus were recorded in the last 24 hours in Mizoram, taking the tally here to 3,481, said the state's Information and Public Relations Department on Wednesday. According to the department, there are currently 504 active cases of Covid-19.
