The sample of a woman who was tested positive for coronavirus was sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune on May 30 for genome sequencing and her test report came on Friday. “She was asymptomatic and has recovered completely. The number of Delta variant cases of COVID-19 in the UK have risen by 35,204 since last week to a total of 111,157, representing a 46 per cent increase, health officials said in the weekly report released on Friday. Public Health England (PHE) said of the total Delta variant of concern (VOC) – first identified in India – 42 belong to the Delta AY.1 sub lineage, dubbed as Delta plus in some quarters over fears of its even greater transmissibility.

776 doctors died in Covid second wave: IMA
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday informed that 776 doctors lost their lives in the second wave of Covid. According to the IMA Covid registry - state-wise Doctors martyrs list, Bihar saw the maximum number of 115 deaths, followed by Delhi at 109, Uttar Pradesh 79, West Bengal 62, Rajasthan 44, Jharkhand 39, and Andhra Pradesh 40.

A National Institute of Epidemiology survey confirms at least 6 people tested positive for Covid-19 had delta plus variant. They retrieved 539 samples of which sequences were retrieved for 421 samples.
While 382 (90%) were delta variants, seven were Alpha (UK variant) and six (1.4%) carried Delta plus variant. The remaining 26% (6.2%) were other variants. In addition, of the samples sent by the state to the INSTEM lab in Bangalore, three more samples tested positive for Delta plus.

Ratnagiri woman first in Maharashtra to die of Delta Plus variant
Maharashtra on Friday reported the first death from the 'Delta Plus' variant of Covid-19, with an octogenarian woman succumbing in Ratnagiri civil hospital, a senior official said. The woman hails from Sangameswar and was admitted to the hospital, over 330 kilometres from Mumbai, a few days ago, Sanjay Shinde, Additional Collector, Ratnagiri.
