Chowringhee is a Kolkata district constituency falling under the Kolkata Uttar (North) Lok Sabha seat. The constituency is located at the heart of Kolkata, near the iconic Chowringhee Road and surrounding areas, encompassing the central business district. It has one of the lowest voter turnouts in the state — approximately 54 per cent in 2021 — reflecting its transient and floating population.
In 2021, TMC's Nayana Bandyopadhyay won the seat, polling close to 63 per cent of the vote and defeating her BJP rival by a wide margin. The Congress came third with about 13 per cent.
In 2016, TMC also held Chowringhee comfortably. The seat has been in the TMC column throughout the party's tenure in power. Given its location in central Kolkata — with its mix of commercial establishments, hotels, markets, and upper-class residential pockets — the constituency's concerns revolve around traffic management, commercial regulation, and civic upkeep.
