Axiom-4 Will Mark India's First Presence At ISS, Return to Human Spaceflight After 40yrs

In the spring of 2025, Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is set to make history as the pilot of the Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission to the International Space Station or the ISS. The Ax-4 crew will utilise SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft, to launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This would mark India’s first human presence on the ISS and its second govt-sponsored human spaceflight in over four decades — Wing Commander (retd) Rakesh Sharma had gone to space on a Soviet mission in 1984. Ax-4 mission commander Peggy Whitson exclusively shared elaborate details on Shukla’s role, the mission and more with TOI's Chethan Kumar.
