Should children consider a career in off-beat fields?

Photography and sound recording are fascinating fields but many still do not consider them as a rewarding career option. Parents need to encourage kids to look beyond the traditional fields so that a passion can be developed into a career.

The greatest drawback for children opting for off beat fields is their lack of a sound education. Barring a few exceptions, our education system is built on passing examinations by hook or by crook. Very little is offered to expand the child's vision and to think laterally.Invariably, they choose safe careers. Most parents today are ignorant of the avenues available to their children. The child of today is better informed than his parents because of technology, and this is ,perhaps the first time in human history that this has happened.Schools and colleges can give better advice on careers than parents. There is a profusion of careers available in umpteen number of sectors and children should be allowed to explore and decide for themselves.

Medicine and engineering were considerd as best profession since they could find easy jobs .Medicine still enjoys the position but engineers are finding it difficult to get jobs easly where as in many new fields jobs are aailble wiyh smarter salaries and job satisfaction like Fasion design textile design Advertising Media etc.,Medicos paying rs 50 to niently lakhs for an admission is not worth the money. No patient will go to a simple MBBS doctor for treatment. That means additional expense for post graduate admission .You have many mote carreer building jobs available. So stop the clamour for traditionl jobs and look for different carriers which give a lot of good opportunities.

Today is the age of information and the internet has made it possible for anybody who is talented or has the knowledge to make it big. Ironically both the examples you have quoted photography and sound recording are the fields that I feel that I should have chosen in my own life but back then, there was nobody to advise me and I ended up on the predictable path. But youngsters should bravely take up anything that interests them and if they truly put in their best efforts and hard work, success will surely come their way.

Many a new exciting exciting career options have come up which need to be pursued by growing children having taste for out of box thinking and career than the monotonous clerical office jobs

Yes Definitely, because as the world is exploring & new n new disciplines are emerging to grow n work in, then why to confine our kids to be the stereotype. The upcoming generation is spectacularly forward than we were, we should let their creativity blossom rather than sabotaging it.

With the extent of opportunities available today, one can succeed only if they really have a passion to do a particular thing, irrespective of the field - be it photography/music/sound recording/sports.... you name the field, and you would find people succeeding in them only because of their passion.

This should not be considered as an opinion to discuss. Humans will find work and that's a contribution to oneself and society. Present general education pursued is a hindrance to this basic human need. Tax system for a populous country like India should be brought down in terms of per head contribution so that people can spend on their creativity.

Every child should be allowed to choose a career for which he has the inclination and the aptitude.

No - It could be a risk for someone who does not have a solid financial back-up in place. The rich of course could experiment

Yes. Why not? Instead of having a herd of sheeps in one grassland, parents should take the advantage of taking up this offbeat tracks and give the children an eagle's flight to thier freedom

There is no clear YES or NO. It all depends on aptitude and also on the economic backing the family has. Since thats very important i put my vote under NO because that can be a significnat factor in India

Middle class do not have the expertise or experience to guide the children in these fields. If at all children want to get into this field , they should set correct expectations from parents and family.
