LPG prices have been rising steadily across India, and recently, a post from Varanasi caught the attention of many on social media. A young investor shared his thoughts about the daily earnings of delivery workers, and his calculation quickly sparked debates online.
Breaking down the daily income
The 23-year-old investor posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Today I received an LPG cylinder. It cost me Rs 976, as the price increased by Rs 60. I offered Rs 1,000 to the delivery person, but he had no change because he only had Rs 500 notes. I am wondering – if he delivers 30–40 cylinders a day and earns Rs 25 per cylinder, that means he is earning about Rs 1,000 a day. Monthly – Rs 30,000 plus salary.”

Many social media users defended the workers and highlighted the challenges they face. One person wrote, “This is wrong, sir; hard work deserves fair earnings. Delivering 30–40 cylinders a day is not an easy job.”
Another added, “It’s tough for delivery workers, especially when prices keep rising. Rs 25 per cylinder isn’t much when you consider their effort, fuel costs, and long hours. We need to recognize their struggles more.”
Several people pointed out the physical demands of the job. “Each cylinder weighs 16+ kgs when full.
They carry 20 such cylinders in the harsh sun in their pushcart. Have to climb many floors! Rs 25 for that effort is peanuts,” one comment said.
Others stressed the strength required to do the job. “Do you even know how much the weight of one LPG cylinder is? They carry cylinders above the 3rd floor. Ain’t for the weak!” another user wrote.
Some comments reminded people to respect the effort of delivery workers. “25 sounds small, but 30–40 deliveries a day is serious physical work,” one said. Another added, “A poor man earns by doing hard Labour. Let a man have his bread and butter.” One more comment read, “Carrying cylinders all day isn’t easy money.”
