Humans are the most common and widely spread species. With the full development of the limbs, humans have a large size. The average height for a man worldwide is 5 feet 7.5 inches. When compared to birds, one would definitely think that humans are bigger. But did you know there are certain birds that are bigger than humans? Let's find out.

Common Ostrich

The common ostrich, typically found in the Savannas of Africa, is the biggest bird on Earth. With a size of up to 9 feet tall and a weight of 156 kg, these birds are powerful and towering. Additionally, they are talented runners and can run at speeds of 70 km/h in a sprint.

Somali Ostrich

Once believed to be a subspecies of the common ostrich, the Somali ostrich is relatively smaller than its relative. A native to the Horn of Africa, its weight is 90 kg and its height ranges between 6.5 to 9 feet.

Emu is another one of the tallest birds in the world. The biggest birds in Australia, they reach up to 6.2 feet in height and can run up to 50 km/h. Flightless in nature, these birds are bigger than humans.

The southern cassowary is typically found in New Guinea and mainland Australia. Towering up to 6 feet, they are one of the tallest, biggest and most dangerous birds on Earth.

Dalmatian Pelican

Dalmatian Pelicans are one of the tallest flying birds. With a wingspan of around 11 feet, these birds stand at an impressive 5-6 feet. Additionally, they can devour around 4 pounds a day, as per the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.

These birds could definitely score a role in one of the Harry Potter movies with their strange yet tall structure. Also known as whale-headed storks, these fierce-looking birds stand at around 5 feet and are found in Africa.

Greater Rhea

Around one-fifth of the size of an adult ostrich, Greater Rhea weighs a whooping 66 pounds and grows up to 5 feet tall, thus they are taller than average human beings.

The largest of the penguins, Emperor penguins are typically around 3.6 to 4 feet tall and can weigh up to 40 kg.

Mostly found in southern California and around the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona and southern Utah. They range from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 feet in height and have a wingspan of 9-10 feet, making them the largest land bird in North America, and relatively larger than humans.

With an average height of 3.9 to 4.7 feet, the Greater Flamingos are the tallest species of flamingos found in the wetlands of Africa, southwestern Europe and South Asia.
