Mohan G, the director, spoke openly about the release and response of 'Draupathi 2' within one day of the movie screening. The film has music by Ghibran, while the actors Raksana Indhusudhan, Natty Nataraaj, and Vela Ramamoorthy play the lead roles. This movie touches on the known dark secrets of 14th-century history. 'Draupathi 2' was released at this time of the struggle with the infamous blockbuster 'Mankatha' featuring
Ajith Kumar, which was re-released.
'Mankatha' re-release overshadows theatrical run
Taking to his X (formerly
Twitter) handle, Mohan G disclosed that although the movie 'Draupathi 2' had received amazing responses from people, the film went unnoticed due to the generated crowd for 'Mankatha'. Mohan G stated it was a wrong move to change the timeline by a week’s postponement after Pongal due to seats available. This might change the film's rhythm and it was mistaken to postpone the movie, as it'll be hard to create buzz for the new date, January 23rd.

Missed opportunity to reach the intended audience
The director added that due to the 'Mankatha' crowds, they were unable to gauge the response and word-of-mouth surrounding 'Draupathi 2', which he thinks resulted in many viewers who appreciated the film’s objective, exposing suppressed historical truths, not discovering the movie in the first place.
Mohan G said he was disappointed that the purpose of the film and its content didn’t get a chance to create healthy discussion among audiences before becoming the topic of discussion.
Mohan G leaves the final verdict to the audience
Addressing the criticism and online backlash, Mohan G said that the situation was being misused by certain individuals to spread misinformation and negative commentary about him and the film, often without even watching it. Emphasising his decade-long journey in the industry without backing or influence, he asserted that he has always relied solely on the audience. “The judgement of the people is the judgement of God,” he wrote, reiterating that the audience alone should decide the fate of his film. Alongside the statement, Mohan G also released a video elaborating on these points, stressing his intention to ensure that the producer’s marketing investment translates into visibility and fair reach for the film.
