Sunanda Sharma mesmerises Kolkata audience with an enchanting evening
The city was treated to an evening of classical music as Tabla.Inc, in association with The Kolkata Centre for Creativity, Emami Foundation, and United Religious Initiative, presented 'Rang' at the KCC Amphitheatre, celebrating the vibrant spirit of Holi.
The program commenced with a tabla presentation titled 'Taaltarang' by a dynamic students of Tanmoy Bose, namely Archishman Sinha Roy, Arko Ghosh, Anchit Majhi, Iraban Jha, Swarnabha Sarkar and Tabasmo Charaborty. They delivered a spirited demonstration in Teentaal, exploring both Vilambit (slow) and Drut (fast) tempos with remarkable energy and precision. It was great to see the full house filled with city’s music enthusiasts and some prominent musicians of the city.
The highlight of the show was the mesmerising songs sung by celebrated vocalist Sunanda Sharma, an eminent exponent of the Banaras Gharana and a devoted disciple of Girija Devi. Renowned for her mastery over Thumri, Tappa, and other semi-classical forms, she has also received guidance from legendary maestros Kishan Maharaj and Bismillah Khan.
She presented an evocative repertoire, beginning with raga-based compositions in Puriya Kalyan and Vasant, perfectly capturing the seasonal and emotional hues of the occasion. She then transitioned into traditional forms such as Tappa, Chaiti, and Bhajan, beautifully aligning with the festive theme of 'Rang.'
