We often hear that “age is just a number,” but Mary didn’t believe it, just like many of us. At 62 years old, she thought her best years were behind her. As a busy administrator juggling long work hours and frequent travel, she had quietly accepted that her body simply couldn’t change anymore. Losing weight was a pipe dream, let alone shedding belly fat. “Impossible,” she thought. Even though her brain said it was not possible, her heart told her to try one more time. And she did. She lost 15 pounds in 3 months, and the belly fat disappeared!
She thought she was “too old” to train her body
Mary, a 62-year-old administrator, felt there was little time for herself. Her work travel would disrupt any health routine she tried to build. She was concerned about her belly fat and wanted to gain strength and focus on her physical health.
She tried multiple times, and now she was tired of everything.
“Mary is a 62-year-old administrator. She thought she would never lose the belly fat and build strength at her age. Mary was beginning to believe, ‘I’m too old for that.’ But she decided to try anyway. She was dealing with travel for work, long hours, and the belief that her body just couldn’t change anymore,” her trainer, Chris Boettcher, said in a post shared on X.
After nothing seemed to move the needle, she stopped hoping.
One last try
Mary told herself, “One last time.” Despite all the doubts and a tight schedule, she decided to give it one more shot. She didn’t go on extreme calorie restriction. She didn’t spend hours in the gym. Rather, she focused on something doable. And three months later, she had lost 15 pounds!
“She absolutely crushed it. 162→147 lbs. 15 pounds down in 3 months. At 62, she’s stronger than she’s been in decades. She’s leaner and more confident. And she did it with a system that fits her actual life,” the trainer revealed.
She did it. She built strength and health without extreme regimens. Consistency is what helped her—and, of course, the right approach.
Age is indeed just a number
Mary’s story is proof that one can always reach their health goals, regardless of the number of candles on their birthday cake. The approach really matters. You cannot expect someone with a busy schedule and demanding career to spend two hours in the gym or go on an extreme, calorie-restrictive diet. So the right approach is important, and it changes everything. It doesn’t matter where you’re starting from or how many times you’ve tried before. “Your age isn’t the problem. Your approach is. No matter your age or current fitness level, prove what’s possible,” the fitness coach reminded.
