Mammootty has joined hands with filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy for the Tamil film tentatively titled ‘D55’, starring Dhanush.On Wednesday, February 4, the superstar’s team confirmed that he is part of ‘D55’. “A new chapter. A powerful journey ahead. It's Official Mammootty on board #D55 Best wishes to @rajkumarperiasamy , @dhanushkraja , @wunderbarfilms & the entire team,” Mammootty’s home production banner said, confirming the collaboration. The makers of 'D55' were thrilled to welcome Mammootty on board. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the makers said, "When the Big M chooses a story, it becomes history. Super excited to welcome Megastar @mammukka onboard #D55! We are honoured! This announcement comes just days after the makers of the Tamil film confirmed that actor Sai Pallavi has joined the cast of the film. Sreeleela, who was recently seen in Sudha Kongara’s ‘Parasakthi’ is also part of the Dhanush starrer.

‘D55’ marks Mammootty’s return to Tamil cinema, after seven years. His last outing in Tamil was the critically acclaimed film ‘Peranbu’ helmed by Ram. This film also marks Mammootty’s reunion with Dhanush after a long time. In 2013, Dhanush had appeared in a cameo role in Mammootty starrer Malayalam film ‘Proprietors: Kammath & Kammath.’

What’s next for Mammootty?

Mammootty has been filming for ‘Padayaatra’ with iconic filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The Malayalam film went on floors on January 23. 'Padayaatra' marks Mammootty's reunion with the director 32 years after ‘Vidheyan’. The upcoming Malayalam film will be their fourth collaboration. “As the scripting was going on, only Mammootty’s face came to my mind for the central character. I felt that he would be the perfect person for the role. This will be the fourth time he plays the male lead in one of my films. I’ve never worked with any other lead actor that many times,” Adoor Gopalakrishnan told Manorama News earlier. The shoot of the film is progressing. Actors Indrans, Grace Antony, Sreeshma Chandran, and Zeenath AP are also part of the cast.
