Sunny Deol opens up about his religious beliefs and challenges of playing Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’: “Kaun bhagwan mein nahi manta?”
The buzz around ‘Ramayana’ has been growing ever since the cast and concept were teased online. Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has confirmed he is stepping into the role of Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated film ‘Ramayana.’ The star shared his thoughts on religion, challenges of the role, and what fans can expect from the epic project.
Sunny, in a chat with News18, said, “I am working in Ramayan as Hanuman; yes, that is true.” The actor, known for his powerful screen presence and strong roles, is gearing up to play one of the most beloved figures from Indian mythology.
“Kon bhagwan mein nhi manta?”
When asked if he is a religious person, Deol didn’t hesitate to express his faith. “Kaun bhagwan mein nahi manta? Hum hai bhagwan ke vajh se hai.” Who doesn’t believe in God? We are here because of Him.
The actor’s straightforward and heartfelt answer will strike a chord with many, especially given the spiritual nature of the role he’s about to take on.
Taking on a mighty role
Lord Hanuman is known as the mighty devotee of Lord Ram, and playing this larger-than-life role comes with its own challenges. But Deol seems more excited than nervous. Talking about the difficulty of portraying Hanuman, he said, “For actors, we love challenging things because it’s fun. We have to nail the character and listen to our director. I immerse myself in my character so that people believe in it. I have not started shooting yet, but it will be one of the most mega films.”
A two-part epic is on the way
The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by producer Namit Malhotra, will be released in two parts. Part One is expected to hit the big screen in Diwali 2026, while Part Two is scheduled for 2027. The cast of ‘Ramayana’ reads like a who’s who of Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor will play Lord Ram, with Sai Pallavi as Sita. Kannada superstar Yash has signed on to play Ravana, the powerful villain of the tale. Other key roles include Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi and Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara. And, of course, Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
