‘Shaktimaan’ actor Vaishnavi MacDonald reveals why she quit films, hints at casting couch: ‘They asked me to meet them alone in the evening’

Vaishnavi MacDonald, best known for playing Geeta Vishwas in the hit TV show 'Shaktimaan', recently opened up about why she stepped away from films at a very early stage in her career. At a time when promising opportunities were coming her way, the actor chose to walk out due to uncomfortable behind-the-scenes experiences.Vaishnavi revealed that she had been finalised as the lead in a film and preparations were already underway when things suddenly changed. Promotional material featuring her had even been printed. However, she and her mother were later called in for a meeting and informed that she would no longer continue with the project. Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, she recalled, “My mother and I were made to sit in an office and told that the posters and banners had already been printed, but I could not continue with the film.” The abrupt decision came as a shock, especially after formal commitments had already been made.She also hinted that her refusal to compromise may have cost her the role. She shared that she was asked to attend a private evening gathering without any family members present. “They asked me to meet them alone in the evening,” she said.According to Vaishnavi, the nature of the gathering made her uncomfortable. “They said it would be an all-men party and that we would drink together.” She chose not to attend, prioritising her safety and values over professional advancement.Vaishnavi also spoke about how her mother accompanied her everywhere during that phase of her career — something she believes made certain people uneasy.“But my mother was always with me, and that bothered them. She never left me alone,” she said.She added that her mother handled her daily commute. “My mother would pick me up and drop me every day.” Even plans for an overseas schedule reflected the tension. “That production house even got my passport made, but said my mother’s passport could not be processed, even though I was supposed to travel to Switzerland for the shoot.”Looking back, Vaishnavi’s decision to step away from films appears rooted in self-respect and personal safety. While she eventually found lasting recognition on television, her account sheds light on the difficult choices many actors quietly face early in their careers.
