Amit Sharma to direct ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ as Priyadarshan exits and Paresh Rawal confirms return - Reports

The film, fondly remembered for its chaotic storyline revolving around a lottery ticket and a village full of eccentric personalities, continues to enjoy a loyal fan base. However, while excitement around ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ is building, a significant change is happening behind the scenes. Contrary to expectations, Priyadarshan will not direct the sequel; Amit Sharma, known for ‘Badhaai Ho’ (2018), is likely to step in and take the franchise forward.According to Mid-Day, reports suggest that Amit Sharma is currently in discussions to direct ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ and is enthusiastic about taking the franchise forward. His storytelling style, which balances humour with relatability, is expected to bring a refreshing take to the sequel. While the director may change, the film is expected to retain its original flavour with familiar faces returning. Paresh Rawal is likely to lead the cast once again, alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav, who played key roles in the first instalment and contributed significantly to its comic appeal.Directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Malamaal Weekly’ (2006) revolved around a small village caught up in chaos over a lottery ticket, becoming a fan-favourite over the years. The original film was produced by Percept Picture Company and Sahara Motion Pictures, but neither is currently associated with the upcoming project. Producer Shailendra Singh shared that Paresh Rawal had reached out on behalf of an independent producer to inquire about the sequel’s rights. He further explained that the rights appear to be shared between Sahara and another party, and he does not have clear documentation regarding them.
