Triton Valves at 50: From Mysuru roots to global engineering powerhouse

Triton Valves Limited, a name synonymous with India’s automotive industry, celebrates its Golden Jubilee in 2025. From a small facility in Mysuru to becoming one of the country’s largest precision valve manufacturers, the company's journey is one of vision, resilience, and innovation. Two out of every three tyres on Indian roads today run on valves manufactured by the company. It is a staggering figure, one that underscores how a precision component has become the backbone of India’s automotive industry.

From Karwar to the world: The founder’s vision

The story began in 1975, when Maruti Vinayak (MV) Gokarn, born in Karwar, founded Triton with a mission to establish world-class valve manufacturing in India. Trained in mechanical and electrical engineering at the College of Engineering, Pune, and with exposure to British firms, he identified a crucial gap in India’s tyre valve market. Investing his life savings, he set up a facility in Mysuru, supported by technical collaboration from Pingeot Bardin SA, France.

Despite the hurdles of the License Raj, his decision to incorporate it as a public company created a foundation for long-term growth. His core principles of ethics, innovation, and customer focus remain embedded in the company’s DNA.

Torchbearer: Women’s leadership in heavy industry

In 1986, after MV Gokarn’s sudden passing, his wife Anuradha M Gokarn stepped into leadership, an extraordinary move in a male-dominated industry. With an MPhil in English Literature from the University of London, she had no background in business or manufacturing. Yet, at 44, while raising two young children, she transformed adversity into opportunity.

Within six years, by 1992, she rescued the company from debt and positioned it as India’s market leader in tyre valves. For over two decades, she steered the company with stability, trust, and growth leaving behind a remarkable leadership legacy.

Scaling new frontiers: The third generation

Since 2013, leadership has passed to Shri Aditya M Gokarn, son of the founder and current managing director. A mechanical engineer from RV College of Engineering with a certificate of business excellence from UC Berkeley, he has taken the bramd into its next growth phase.

He set up a DSIR-approved R&D centre, expanded into HVAC and brass/copper extrusions through subsidiaries, and entered the electric vehicle ecosystem with patented EV battery relief valves. Today, Triton is a ₹500-crore enterprise with a strong global footprint. In FY 2024–25, it recorded consolidated revenues of ₹488.37 crore, growing at 14% year-on-year. Over the last five years, it has maintained a 21.3% CAGR.

Its Mysuru hub produces over 240 million valve cores and 120 million tube valves annually, supplying OEMs. Beyond automotive, its components reach aerospace, defence, refrigeration, and industrial sectors across 12 countries, including the US, Germany, UK, Israel, and Vietnam.
