EC to give verdict in Samajwadi Party symbol case

Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, one of the key reasons for the discord in the SP first family, claimed he was being wrongly blamed for the conflict and that he feared serious threat to life from expelled party member Ram Gopal Yadav.

"It is unfortunate and ironical that despite being a woman Mayawati is not standing for the rights of Muslim women. She is doing so for vote bank politics," BJP National Secretary Shrikant Sharma said.

With Samajwadi Party facing a grave internal crisis, Mayawati is aggressively wooing Muslims, a traditional SP support base, as their support to her party has the potential to prosper it to power in the assembly polls scheduled for early next year.

Outside the state SP headquarters, tension once again ran high with followers of Shivpal and Akhilesh raising slogans in favour of their respective leaders.

Cordons were set up this morning on the roads leading to Vikramaditya Marg where the SP office is situated.

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said the ongoing family feud in the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh was the result of "dynasty" politics and that BJP does not "want to fish in troubled waters".

"But at the same time, we don't want to fish in troubled waters. We don't want to say anything or do anything on what is happening with SP. People are seeing what is happening and they will decide and act," he said.

RJD president Lalu Prasad said that Mulayam Singh Yadav is capable of solving such problems. He made an appealed him to end the unpleasant situation in the party at the earliest.
Prasad said he was concerned over the feud within the SP family because he was related to that family.The RJD chief's daughter is married to Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, MP from Mainpuri and grandson of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Samajwadi Party's Maharashtra unit chief Abu Azmi on Tuesday lashed out at senior party leader Amar Singh, while blaming him for the major turmoil in the Yadav clan and requested party supremo Mulayam Singh to take measure before the party breaks into pieces. Siding with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Azmi told ANI that that the party can bounce back to power only under his leadership. "I would request Mulayam Singh to stop the party from breaking into pieces. And I would also like to tell Netaji that your son Akhilesh Yadav is a very good and is very much worthy. He should not listen to others. I would like to request Netaji that do a voting as to how many people are in favour of Amar Singh as Netaji had himself said in the party meeting yesterday that listen to people who speak truth and stay away from sycophants," he said.

Shivpal Yadav and other expelled UP Ministers Shadab Fatima, Narad Rai and OP Singh meet Mulayam Singh Yadav at his residence in Lucknow.

The focus may be on Mulayam Singh, Akhilesh, Ram Gopal and Shivpal, but SP workers are a distraught and confused lot, caught between their regard for Mulayam and affection for Akhilesh. Also, many don't know which MLAs to campaign for as a bunch of Akhilesh loyalists have been shown the door.

The acrimony in the SP first family delivered an unexpected spin-off for BJP, with SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav citing Narendra Modi as the role model of an obedient son who respects mother and visits her even after becoming PM.

The businessman with the reputation of being Mulayam's "crisis manager", Amar Singh is, for a change, at the centre of the Samajwadi Party storm.
