RINL CMD stresses on cost-effective methods
VISAKHAPATNAM: Organisations should stress on cost effective methods and wastage elimination processes and make them part of their work culture, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) chairman-cum-managing director P Madhusudan said here on Thursday.Delivering the inaugural address at the three-day 56th national convention on 'Productivity: Foundation to sustainability' organised by the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE) at Ukkunagaram on Thursday, he said there is also a need to provide an environment for encouraging creativity through participation and empowerment of employees.Madhusudan stressed on the urgent need for developing industrial professionals as an effective tool for management in all spheres of the economy by enlarging existing knowledge, encouraging development of new techniques and adopting the same to suit Indian conditions.He pointed out that adopting new technologies through research and development for improving productivity is gaining momentum and added that Vizag Steel Plant is a pioneer in the field of waste utilization.He said every year RINL saves Rs 200 crore through recycling of metallurgical wastes, used refractories and reclamation of spares and oils, among others.Speaking on the occasion, L&T president M V Kotwal stressed on the need to take the benefit of technology for sustainability.
He also added that business sophistication and innovation are the key for achieving sustainability.Prof Karuna Jain, director, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), said that productivity enhancement is one of the major challenges for industrial engineers. She said that the role of industrial engineers has changed drastically and appealed to the professionals to adopt emerging industrial engineering tools for overall productivity improvement.RINL director (personnel) GBS Prasad called upon industrial engineers to adhere to changes that are emerging in industrial engineering to achieve excellence and sustainability. Around 300 delegates from all over the country participated in the programme.
