The apex court collegium, headed by the chief justice of India, justice Surya Kant, took the decision to make advance transfers so that the new chief justice is aware of what is happening in that high court and can perform duties effectively after taking charge.
Justice Lisa Gill is the first judge transferred under the new policy of the Supreme Court. She will also hold the distinction of becoming the first woman chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh high court. Justice Lisa Gill is the third senior-most judge in the high court of Punjab and Haryana.
