Visakhapatnam: The three-day training programme sponsored by the Bureau of Police Research and
Development (BPR&D), ministry of home affairs, on the theme "Leadership in Prison Administration" was concluded at central prison in
Vizag on Friday. The programme aimed to strengthen leadership skills among prison officers and enhance professional competence in correctional administration.
The programme was organised under the guidance of superintendent, central prison, Visakhapatnam, M Mahesh Babu. Officers (deputy jailors and deputy superintendents) from various prisons across the country participated in the training programme. Lectures were delivered by senior professors from IIM- Visakhapatnam and Andhra University.

The valediction ceremony was graced by Dr Indla Sreenivasa Rao, inspector general of prisons and correctional services, Andhra Pradesh, who distributed certificates to all participants.
In his valedictory address, he emphasised the critical importance of anticipatory leadership, emotional resilience, and lawful use of authority in managing custodial emergencies.
He highlighted that prison leadership must balance firmness with reformative orientation, especially during volatile situations such as riots. He appreciated the active participation of officers and commended the organising team for successfully conducting the programme.
