Tirupati: A 19-year-old intermediate student allegedly ended his life by jumping into an abandoned well by tying a boulder to his waist, after his mother reportedly delayed buying him a bike, at Chandragiri on the outskirts of Tirupati on Saturday.According to the Chandragiri police, Akash was the only son of Muni Kumari, a widow who works in Kuwait. He lived in Diguva Veedhi in Chandragiri, and was studying at a local college. On Friday night, he sent a text message, along with photos of himself near the well, to a friend informing him that he was going to end his life. The friend informed Muni Kumari, who immediately alerted the Chandragiri police.Though police rushed to the well from where Akash had sent his photos, they could not locate him as it was pitch dark. On Saturday morning, police, along with local fire services personnel, checked the well and retrieved the teenager’s body from it. They registered a case and shifted the body to SVRR govt general hospital for a post-mortem examination.Investigation revealed that Muni Kumari recently bought her son a mobile phone worth ₹1.5 lakh. “She had asked Akash to give her a few months to buy him a bike. But Akash was adamant, which may have led him to take the extreme step,” police said.
