Three get 10-year-jail for ganja trade in Anakapalle district
Visakhapatnam: The IX-additional district judge court in Chodavaram of Anakapalle district on Friday sentenced three persons to 10-years imprisonment for possession of 140 kg of marijuana in Jan 2015 and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on each convict. The convicted persons were Panuganti Subba Rao, a native of Kadapa, Allu Satyanarayana, a native of Vizag, and A Sattibabu, a native of Anakapalle dist.Anakapalle district police chief Tuhin Sinha said V Madugula police seized 140 kg of dry cannabis and arrested the accused when the trio was transporting the weed in a SUV from Paderu of ASR district to another location near Garikabandha locality on Jan 10, 2015. Police registered a case against the smugglers and investigated it. The smugglers were charged under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. After the regular trials, the judge sentenced the three persons to 10-years imprisonment and imposed the fine.
