Vijayawada: A tragic incident in Tenali town of Guntur district has sparked concern and debate after a woman attempted suicide by consuming insecticide and later died while undergoing treatment at the Guntur govt hospital. Before attempting suicide, the woman recorded and released a selfie video accusing the police of harassment and mental torture.The deceased, identified as Thirupathamma, worked as a watchwoman along with her husband in an apartment complex at Kothapet in Tenali. A woman residing in the same apartment complex had lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that Thirupathamma had stolen gold ornaments from her house. Based on the complaint, police had been questioning her in connection with the case.In the selfie video recorded before her suicide attempt, Thirupathamma said she was innocent and was falsely implicated in a crime she did not commit. She claimed that repeated calls from the police station and constant questioning caused her severe mental distress. Unable to bear the pressure, she consumed insecticide in a desperate step.The video, which later circulated widely on social media, intensified public outrage and raised questions about the manner in which the investigation was handled. In the video, the woman emotionally narrated her ordeal and accused the police of harassing her despite she having no role in the alleged theft. She was immediately shifted for treatment but succumbed while undergoing medical care at the Guntur govt hospital. Guntur SP Vakul Jindal has ordered a detailed inquiry into the issue.
