Kakinada: Anudeep Katikala, a Hyderabad-based standup comedian, was arrested by Andhra Pradesh police from Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj on Wednesday for allegedly making "vulgar" and "indecent" comments on deputy chief minister
Pawan Kalyan and his family.
A police team from Kakinada went to Prayagraj to arrest the comedian. He was later brought to Kakinada by a train accompanied by his parents.
Earlier, the police booked a case against Anudeep in Kakinada One Town police station over allegations that his online video posted on April 11 insulted Pawan Kalyan. Within three days of registration of the case, police traced the comedian to Uttar Pradesh and arrested him. Kakinada district SP G Bindu Madhav confirmed that Anudeep was arrested. Making it clear that no one who makes vulgar comments on anyone will be spared, he said the comedian has no right to insult the family members of others.
The FIR (No. 62/2026) was registered at Kakinada One Town police station by inspector Mandala Naga Durga Rao. It followed a written complaint by 51-year-old Bade Venkata Krishna, a local Jana Sena leader and resident of Canal Road in Jagannadhapuram. The complaint alleged that the video targeted Pawan Kalyan and his family members, damaging their reputation with sarcasm and vulgar language, and spreading false information to disrupt peace and incite enmity.
