Tirupati: The Pulivendula police in Kadapa district arrested six persons in connection with a digital arrest case linked to the death of a retired teacher.
According to Kadapa SP Shelke Nachiket Viswanath, the accused arrested by the police were identified as AAC Madhu (36), Aadithya Manohar (26), Arjun Nelamakala (34), Roshan Ullas (37), Suresh Sanketh Naidu (29), and Harish Srinivas (27) - all belonging to different parts of Karnataka.
Police investigation revealed that the gang impersonated CBI officers and extorted Rs 1.62 crore from a Pulivendula-based retired teacher, Putluru Prakasam Reddy, by placing him under digital arrest and linking him to a high-profile money laundering case in May this year.
When the gang continued to further pressurise the retired teacher, Prakasam Reddy suffered a major cardiac arrest and died on June 6 this year.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim's son, P Hitesh Reddy, the Pulivendula police registered a case and, after a detailed investigation, arrested all six accused in the case.
Police enquiries revealed that this gang was involved in multiple similar cases reported across the country. Police have frozen the bank accounts linked to the case, and the investigation will further continue.
