Vijayawada: With the Election Commission set to issue the notification for the Rajya Sabha election on Monday, the
Jana Sena Party has stepped up internal deliberations over who should be nominated for the lone Upper House seat expected to come to the party under the ruling NDA alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement.
The impending notification has triggered intense political speculation, with several prominent names emerging as potential contenders. Among them is businessman Lingamaneni Ramesh, who is known to share close ties with both Jana Sena chief
Pawan Kalyan and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. His name gained prominence after Pawan Kalyan recently praised him publicly, stating that Lingamaneni stood by him for the past decade and supported him even during challenging times.
However, the possibility of Lingamaneni securing the seat has sparked discussions within sections of the Kapu community, which is demanding that the Rajya Sabha berth allotted to Jana Sena be given to a Kapu representative. This has brought other names into the spotlight, including prominent industrialist Bandaru Narasimha Rao of Guntur, a close associate of Pawan Kalyan and currently the vice-president of the Andhra Cricket Association.
Another name generating considerable buzz is that of actor-politician Konidela Nagababu, Pawan Kalyan’s elder brother and a sitting MLC. Political observers believe that nominating Nagababu to the Rajya Sabha could help Jana Sena address demands for Kapu representation while also providing him with a significant national-level political role.
Interestingly, when Nagababu was earlier nominated to the Legislative Council, Naidu had indicated that he would eventually be inducted into the state Cabinet. However, that has not happened so far, leading to speculation that a Rajya Sabha berth could now be offered as a form of political recognition.
With aspirants reportedly reaching out to Pawan Kalyan and lobbying for the prestigious position, the battle for Jana Sena’s Rajya Sabha nomination has emerged as one of the most closely watched political developments in Andhra Pradesh. As the election notification is issued on Monday, all eyes are now on Pawan Kalyan’s final decision.
