Vijayawada: Upset over the possibility of scoring low marks in the AP EAPCET entrance examination, a 17-year-old student studying second-year intermediate at Sri Chaitanya Gayathri Vedavyas Campus died by suicide late on Thursday night.
The victim, Kappala Yashwanth Kumar, hailed from Anantapur and was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room on the campus premises at Kesarapalli under the limits of the Gannavaram police station. “The victim had scored 942 marks and was preparing for the second-year betterment examinations at the hostel. He was visibly disturbed after checking the EAPCET answer key on Thursday. Moreover, Yashwanth had failed to clear the JEE Main examination and was upset that he had lost his only opportunity to secure better marks in EAPCET. He subsequently took the extreme step,” Hanuman Junction SI Nagaraju said, quoting Yashwanth’s classmates.
Meanwhile, mild tension prevailed for some time as the victim’s parents blamed the college management for their son’s death and demanded action against them. A scuffle broke out between the parents and college staff, prompting police intervention. A case has been registered, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
