Tirupati: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds battered several parts of Nellore and Kadapa districts on Thursday night, causing severe damage to the power infrastructure and disrupting supply across multiple villages.
Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APSPDCL) chairman and managing director Sivasankar Lotheti stated on Friday, confirming that the power distribution network suffered significant disruption due to nature’s fury.
The gale-force winds led to widespread power outages across 28 villages in Kadapa district — affecting areas such as Kondapuram, Mydukur, Mylavaram, Jammalamadugu, Proddatur Rural, Duvvur, Rajupalem, and Chapadu mandals. Similarly, 15 villages in Nellore district, including Kavali Rural, Kondapuram, Kovur, Muthukur, Jaladanki, Dagadarthi and Alur mandals, faced severe power disruptions.
The storm took a heavy toll on the infrastructure, damaging 26 feeders, 114 kilometres of electricity lines, 213 power poles, and 131 transformers across both districts. In total, electricity supply was hit in 35 villages spanning 19 mandals.
In response to the crisis, APSPDCL officials and field staff launched restoration works on a war footing under the direct supervision of the respective circle Superintending Engineers. The department swiftly repaired the damaged infrastructure and completely restored the power supply to all affected villages by Friday afternoon.
