Dowry harassment, exam failure lead to two suicides in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: Two people died by suicide in separate incidents in Vizag city. In the first case, 19-year-old student P. Saikumar was found dead at his residence in Bakkannapalem under PM Palem police station limits. Police said Saikumar, a second-year BSc student, had slipped into depression after failing to clear the Army recruitment exam. He took the extreme step when his family members were away from home. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.In another incident, 23-year-old woman R. Prathyusha died at her home in Gangavaram locality, allegedly due to harassment from her husband and in-laws. Police said Prathyusha married M. Dhanaraju in 2022, and the couple had a baby boy. At the time of marriage, Dhanaraju accepted ₹1.5 lakh as gift from her parents. However, Prathyusha was allegedly subjected to dowry harassment by her husband and his family. Unable to bear the abuse, she ended her life. Police registered a case and shifted the body for post-mortem.
