Visakhapatnam: Stepping up its crackdown on narcotics, the ASR district police arrested four people involved in ganja peddling at Pathaveedhi locality under GK Veedhi mandal. The police seized 170 kgs of dry cannabis worth over Rs80 lakh from them.The arrested have been identified as Damodharam, a native of Chittoor; Satyanarayana and Venkateswara Rao, both natives of Rajanagaram; and B Siddharth, a native of GK Veedhi.The police said they have conducted vehicular check-ups near Pathaveedhi locality. The police intercepted a car heading towards GK Veedhi from Sileru. Following checks, the police seized 170 kgs of ganja.The investigation has revealed that the four accused procured the weed from Odisha at low prices, and they have planned to transport the weed to other states to sell at high prices. The police said the investigation is on to nab a few more people, including the suppliers of the weed.Police sources said some people posing as tourists, visiting a few parts, including waterfalls and gardens of the ASR district in cars, procuring the weed from the suppliers and transporting the weed to cities. The police said they have identified some ganja suppliers along the Andhra-Odisha border and will nab them in the coming days.
