Visakhapatnam: Heat-related incidents have claimed two lives in north
Andhra Pradesh over the past two to three days. The first incident involved a 50-year-old woman, a daily wager identified as P Mahalakshmi. She went to work on Friday morning but returned to her home, at Bushabhadra in Sompeta mandal of Srikakulam district, in the afternoon after feeling sick. Despite being shifted to a nearby hospital, she passed away.
In the other case, L Ramakrishna, a 56-year-old resident of Dolapeta from Rajam area of Vizianagaram, died from a heat-related incident. As per reports, he worked at a rice mill in Regidi locality. He left for work in the morning and collapsed shortly after reaching home in the evening. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains lashed parts of Rayalaseema region and some parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, bringing some relief from the scorching heat. Between 8 am and 5 pm on Saturday, Hussainpuram in Ananthapur district recorded 5 cm of rainfall, followed by 4.5 cm of rainfall at Pedda Pasupalle in Kadapa district, 4.1 cm at Gangavaram in Chittoor district, 3.1 cm at Vennapusapalle in Anantapur district, 2.6 cm of rainfall each at Uppalur and Tarrivemula in Kadapa district, and 2 cm of rainfall each at Kommipadu in Nellore and Terannapalle in Anantapur district.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning were experienced in parts of ASR, Manyam, Chittoor, Annamayya, Kurnool, Sri Sathya Sai, Anantapur, Kadapa, and Nandyal districts on Saturday.
As per IMD data, Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district was the hottest place in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday at 41.5 °C, followed by Nandyal (39°C), Kurnool and Anantapur (38.9 °C each), Tirupati (36.7°C), and Kadapa (36.5°C). The maximum temperature hovered between 34°C and 36°C in other parts of the state.
The IMD has forecast moderate to heavy rains at isolated places in Palnadu, NTR, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts on Sunday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema for the next two days.
