Visakhapatnam: Three people, including two women, died and eight others were injured after a speeding
APSRTC bus rammed into a stationary truck near Sri Nagar in Visakhapatnam city on Sunday morning.
According to the Gajuwaka police, the accident occurred when a coal-laden truck pulled over due to a flat tyre. The bus, headed to Parvathipuram from Rajahmundry with 35 passengers on board, crashed into the stationary truck. The impact of the crash was such that two passengers and the co-driver of the bus died on the spot, police said.
The deceased are Rayaipilli Rambau (50), a native of Saluru; Rali Radha Madhavi (35), a native of Rajahmundry; and Lenka Eswaramma (55), a native of Vizianagaram. The injured passengers were shifted to King George Hospital (KGH), with the condition of four of the injured said to be stable. The other four suffered multiple injuries and are undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the bus driver’s negligent and rash driving caused the mishap, as he reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to speeding. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Andhra Pradesh transport minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy visited KG Hospital on Sunday morning and consoled the families of the deceased. He directed officials to ensure that the injured passengers receive the best medical care. He also told the police and transport department to carry out a detailed inquiry into the accident and submit a report on the circumstances that led to it.
The AP govt has announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased.
