Meat market zones to ease traffic in city
Varanasi: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) will regulate meat shops within city limits. Endorsing proposal of executive member Madan Mohan Tiwari, the corporation decided to develop special ‘Meat Market Zones' in all four zones of the city. The corporation initially identified locations in Pisaur area, Chitaipur, between Ramnagar and Sujabad and Sarnath (Aidhe). Modern shops will have parking facilities.

Currently, due to presence of meat shops in densely populated areas and on main roads of the city, problems of cleanliness and traffic persist. Municipal Corporation will be able to better register and inspect shops. Also, modern systems can be installed for waste disposal.Mayor Ashok Tiwari directed municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal to present detailed report and budget proposal as soon as possible for preparing infrastructure at these locations. The municipal corporation decided to build a barrage on Assi drain to prevent flood devastation as a permanent solution to floods and proposal will be sent to irrigation department for this.
