Three special teams formed to nab Goondas Act detainee who escaped from police custody
COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police formed three special teams to nab Goondas Act detainee Farmaan who escaped from police custody while being taken to Madurai on Tuesday night. One team is led by an inspector, and the two other teams are led by sub-inspectors.After an inquiry, departmental action would be taken against the policemen responsible for Farmaan’s escape, city police commissioner N Kannan said.Farmaan is the younger brother of Asif, 45, who died in police custody. Police said Asif, Kallu Arif, 60, and Irfan, 48, all from Uttar Pradesh, were shot in the legs during an alleged escape attempt while being arrested in connection with burglaries at 13 houses in the Kavundampalayam housing unit. Based on their confession, Dawood, 18, and Farmaan were also arrested. All four were detained under the Goondas Act in December. On Tuesday, they were being taken from to Madurai to produce them before the goondas advisory board there. When the police team stopped to buy dinner near Nagamalai Pudukottai, Farmaan wanted to use the toilet. He then pushed down two policemen and fled.
