China has backed Cuba after the Caribbean nation came under fire from the United States. Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi told his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parilla that Beijing supported Havana in safeguarding national sovereignty and security. Cuba had relied heavily on oil shipments from Venezuela, but those were disrupted when the U.S. attacked the South American country on Jan. 3 and captured its president Nicolas Maduro. Trump has upped the heat on Cuba, calling it a "falling nation".
