3-year-old girl dies after falling into boiling sugar syrup in UP's Gorakhpur
LUCKNOW: In a freak accident, a three-year-old girl died after falling into a vessel of boiling sugar syrup while her father was preparing gulab jamuns for a wedding in Gorakhpur on Saturday evening.
The incident took place in Bansgaon, around 30 km from the district headquarters, where preparations were underway for a wedding ceremony scheduled for May 12.
According to locals, confectioners, including the victim’s father, were busy preparing sweets for guests when the child, who was playing nearby, accidentally slipped into a large container of hot sugar syrup kept on the fire.
Family members said the child suffered severe burns after her body was submerged in the boiling syrup. Hearing her screams, the victim’s father immediately pulled her out of the vessel, sustaining burns to his hands in the process. Several others who rushed to help also suffered minor burns.
The critically injured child was first rushed to the Community Health Centre in Bansgaon, where doctors administered primary treatment before referring her to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.
Doctors at the medical college said the girl had suffered more than 60 per cent burn injuries and developed large blisters across her body. She was admitted to the ICU and underwent treatment for nearly four hours, but succumbed to her injuries on Saturday evening.
