2,780 ltrs of English liquor seized in Ballia

Varanasi: The police recovered 2,780.04 litres of English liquor of different brands worth Rs 17,70,000, in 315 cartons from a pickup vehicle in the Bairiya police station area of Ballia district on Friday. A police team led by sub-inspector Mayank Kumar was conducting checks at the Dokati Bairiya border when they spotted a pickup truck approaching from the Dokati road direction. As they attempted to stop the vehicle for inspection, the driver suddenly accelerated and fled. Suspecting illicit cargo, the police gave chase. The driver veered the pickup into a field near Sewadas Mathiya, but with escape routes blocked, they abandoned the vehicle and fled.Vehicle number was traced to Nitesh Kumar, resident of Badka Nagar Murli Chhapra, Ballia. A case has been registered against Nitesh Kumar and the driver under Section 60(1)/63 IPC.
