Gautam Buddha was one of the most famous spiritual teacher, who founded Buddhism. His original name was Siddhartha Gautama. He was born as a prince of Lumbini, who had luxurious life but he attained spiritual awakening through meditation, when he realised that human life is full of sufferings. After that, he started teaching people about the reality of life and ultimate truth of this materialistic world. In this process, he once taught that "Peace Comes from Within. Do Not Seek It Without" so today we will discuss this quote that why did he say so and what's the real meaning behind this quote.
Firstly we will understand the meaning of "Peace comes from within", why Buddha said that and what was his meaning behind this.........
“Peace Comes from Within"
Through this, Buddha wanted to teach that peace comes from within and this is the inner state of awareness. Peace can not be found in relationships, money, success, luxury and status but this is the feeling that we have inside us when we have no desire and whatever comes in life, we accept as it is and show gratitude to God. The peace comes, when we are content and happy from inside because he understood that happiness and peace has nothing to with the outer world.
Time changes, condition changes, and people changes accordingly. He taught that suffering begins, when we start taking this materialistic world very seriously and expect happiness and peace from this.
What is the meaning of "Do not seek it without?"
Here, Buddha wanted to explain - human peace is often connected with the outer world such as achieving the goals, getting success, attachment and love relationship and that's the starting of the sufferings, when we find that our goals are not achieved, experience failed relationships, and face failure in career so this makes us unhappy and this means that true peace can not be found outside, people have to experience this from inside by understanding the real cause of the sufferings.
Why peace is connected with the outer world?
People often connect peace with the achievements of outer world such as getting success and getting wealthy but this is not the reality because peace has no connection with the external circumstances. This can not provide you peace, this can make you more greedy. According to Buddha, peace comes when you start understanding your inner self and for that you have to become compassionate. The more you will start understanding yourself by being still, the more you will find peace inside you.
In today's fast paced world, when we are running very fast and competing with each other to achieve our set goals bring restlessness, stress, and anxiety in life. But the quote says to slow down, look at yourself for a while, do inner work, observe yourself and your mind, do something for the peace of your soul and ask yourself that - Are you at peace?. Finding peace does not mean you have to leave all the work and become a monk but to understand that your mind knows the reality of this materialistic world.
