Jeweller assaulted, robbed of Rs 4.5L in Waghodia
Vadodara: A jeweller was attacked and robbed by unidentified persons in Waghodia taluka on Tuesday night, in an incident in which a gang allegedly looted Rs 4.50 lakh from him before fleeing the spot.
The victim, identified as Jignesh Shah, was returning home on his two-wheeler from his shop when the incident occurred around 8pm.
According to police, Shah stated that four persons on two motorcycles intercepted him on the road. One of the accused allegedly struck him on the head with a stick, causing him to fall. The gang then snatched his bag containing cash and jewellery and escaped from the spot. During the escape, one of the motorcycles reportedly skidded, but the accused managed to flee before locals could intervene.
Police suspect the attackers had conducted a recce of Shah’s movements and were aware he was carrying cash and jewellery home.
“We are scanning CCTV footage of the area to track down the accused. The accused must have followed him before attacking him,” said A M Patel, DCP (Dabhoi division).
Shah was shifted to hospital with severe head injuries. Waghodia police have registered a complaint and launched an investigation.
