VADODARA: While parents may have thought that their children would spend a day of fun in the lap of nature at Jambughoda, the expectations came crashing down in the evening as the news of the bus carrying their wards turning turtle reached them. Desperate attempts were made by parents to get information regarding the well-being of their wards.
Dimple Patel, mother of Jaynam Patel who was injured in the accident, said she was at a wedding when she came to know about the accident.
"I had to rush to the hospital from the marriage. My son has injuries on his head and hand," she said.
Pramod Vaidya, uncle of Nishant Vaidya, was angry after he was told that the driver was drunk. While Vaidya has no first hand accounts in this regard, he said that some children who were not seriously wounded had told so to their parents. Nishant is in a serious condition and needed to undergo a CT Scan on Thursday.
Paresh Rajput of Halol who had joined the rescue operations said that private vehicles had to be roped in to bring the students from the accident spot to Halol and then them to Vadodara.
"We also called up parents to inform them after we got numbers from the students who were in a position to tell these to us," Rajput said.
Chairman of Bright School Jayendra Shah said that the trip was organized by a private company that had also provided the transportation facility. "We do not send our buses out of the school. I have not been told about the driver being inebriated. Our priority is to get the children treated," he said.
Some parents even rushed to the school on hearing about the accident. They were informed regarding the whereabouts of their children and guided accordingly by the school authorities.
