Trichy: A 39-year-old rider from Thanjavur district and a 58-year-old pedestrian from Pudukkottai district were killed in separate accidents involving two buses in Trichy on Sunday.
A Ranjith Kumar of Maruthagudi near Thiruvaiyaru was riding his motorcycle along the Pudukkottai-Trichy Road. When he was riding near the jail corner junction, a govt bus travelling from Pudukkottai to Trichy struck him from behind. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, police said. The bus was driven by M Murugaraju, 52, from Komboothi in Ramanathapuram district.
In another incident, I Chandramoorthy, from Kulathur in Pudukkottai district, was walking towards Old Central bus stand around 8pm when a private city bus entering the bus stand hit him. Chandramoorthy suffered serious injuries and was taken to Trichy GH, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The bus driver was G Balakrishnan, 30, from Melakalkandarkottai.
Traffic police registered separate cases against the respective bus drivers based on complaints from Ranjith Kumar's wife Boomalini, and Chandramoorthy's son Veeramanikandan.
Both drivers were booked under sections 281 and 106(1) of BNS for rash driving and causing death by negligence. The authorities seized the buses. The bodies were handed over to family members after autopsies.
