Truck drivers sensitised at Trichy goods yard
Trichy: Southern Railway and Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Friday organised an awareness programme at Trichy goods yard for truck drivers, sensitising them on the importance of road safety while crossing railway level crossings.Around 110 truck drivers participated in the programme. They were briefed about the consequences of rash, negligent and drunken driving near level crossing gates.

A joint team of the RPF, including inspector Ajay Kumar, explained to the truck drivers about offences punishable under Section 19(1A) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Section 160 of the Railway Act.RPF said that driving licences of erring truck drivers can be considered for suspension for a period of up to six months through the concerned RTO authorities.After the meeting, copies of the proceedings of the RTO, Chengalpattu, dated Feb 27, regarding the suspension of licence of a truck driver involved in a level crossing gate accident were distributed in both Tamil and English versions.The RPF said that real examples of such legal actions will create awareness and instil a sense of responsibility among heavy vehicle drivers.
