Trichy: Minister for Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) department, P K Sekar Babu on Monday inaugurated the renovation work to be carried out at Srirangam's Yatri Nivas. The makeover is to be done at a cost of 9.99 crore.
Tenders for the project were recently floated.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said, "The Yatri Nivas provides affordable accommodation to devotees, including foreigners visiting the temple. The facility generates an annual revenue of 2.4 crore." He added that special repair and renovation works have been taken up at a cost of 9.99 crore. As part of the works, 24 AC cottages, 40 double AC rooms, 47 ordinary rooms, 52 dormitories and a restaurant will be completely repaired and renovated. The works are expected to be completed in five months. "In addition, an estimate of 5.85 crore has been prepared and submitted to the govt for approval to carry out interior decoration work, installation of televisions, electrical works and furniture," he said.
