Trichy: A 48-year-old security guard employed at the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple was arrested on Thursday on charges of stealing foreign currency notes during the counting of offerings deposited in hundials.Police said K Shankar, a resident of Amma Mandapam Road, was working at the temple on a temporary basis.On Wednesday morning, temple staff were counting the offerings that had been collected in hundials. At that time, Shankar offered to help and hid some foreign currency notes, police said. Other staff members grew suspicious of his activities and checked him and found him in possession of 27 foreign currency notes valuing around Rs 12,500. Based on a complaint from temple's executive officer R Venkatesan, police registered a case against Shankar under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested him on Thursday.
