Minor boys on scooter ram water truck, one dies

Trichy: A 16-year-old boy speeding on a scooter died after colliding with a stationary water truck near Srirangam in Trichy on Monday. His friend, also 16, who was riding pillion, sustained critical injuries in the crash.The deceased was identified as V Madhan Kumar, a resident of Azhagiripuram, Srirangam, while the injured was identified as T Velan.According to sources, some contract staff were irrigating plants in the road centre median on Trunk Road in Srirangam using a water truck on Monday around 3.30pm. The boys, who were coming at a high speed collided with the rear of the truck.They suffered severe injuries in the collision. They were rushed to Srirangam govt hospital for first aid and later referred to Trichy govt hospital. Doctors declared Madhan Kumar dead on arrival, while Velan is currently receiving treatment.Based on a complaint from the truck driver, D Sekar, a case was registered against Madhan Kumar. The charges included Sections 281, 125(a), and 106(1) of the relevant laws pertaining to rash driving, endangering human life, and causing death by negligence.
