Man arrested for alcoholic son’s murder

Trichy: A 62-year-old man was arrested near Manapparai in Trichy district on Friday on charges of beating his son to death over his drinking habits.Police identified the deceased as M Yesudas, 34, from Vadugapatti village near Manapparai. Yesudas, an unmarried alcoholic, and his father Mariyaraj were staying together. They frequently fought over Yesudas's drinking habits, police said. On Thursday night, a heated argument erupted between them after Yesudas came home drunk. During the altercation, Mariyaraj allegedly hit Yesudas with a wooden stick, police said and added that Yesudas suffered severe injuries and collapsed. Mariyaraj, who was also under the influence of alcohol, went to sleep.On Friday morning, Yesudas was found dead. The Manapparai police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to the local GH for an autopsy. Police registered a case under Section 101 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested Mariyaraj. Further investigation is on.
