Durai Vaiko seeks update on Panjapur elevated corridor project
Trichy: Trichy MP Durai Vaiko on Tuesday met Harsh Malhotra, Union minister of state for road transport and highways, in New Delhi, seeking an update on the proposed elevated corridor on the Trichy–Madurai national highway at Panjapur.Stating that the elevated stretch is key to decongesting the highway near Panjapur Kalaignar Karunanidhi Bus Terminus (KKBT), the city's integrated bus stand, he urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite the project to prevent accidents. "NHAI still maintains the Panjapur elevated corridor project on the Trichy–Madurai NH in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage. Considering the increasing traffic pressure on the highway, the Union government should facilitate measures for early implementation," Durai Vaiko said in his letter to the minister. The project, proposed by NHAI in 2023, involves a four-lane elevated corridor over a 3-km stretch bypassing the Panjapur bus stand, vegetable market and truck terminal areas. The corridor has remained pending for over a year, despite the required land being available with the Trichy Corporation. There is also no clarity on fund allocation. According to a recent reply from the Union minister, the project continues to remain in the DPR stage. MSID:: 129636576 413 |
