DMK MLAs empower Stalin to take political decisions

Chennai: Amidst reports of talks between DMK and AIADMK for a post poll tie-up, DMK legislature party has empowered outgoing chief minister M K Stalin to ‘study the evolving political situation and take immediate decisions to ensure formation of a stable govt'.A resolution to this effect was passed at the meeting of DMK MLAs in Chennai on Thursday, chaired by Stalin. DMK sources said that Stalin has instructed MLAs to abide by any decision taken by the high command in the interest of the party."Considering the evolving political and administrative situation, this meeting unanimously resolves to grant full authority to Stalin to study the situation and take immediate decisions as necessary,'' the resolution said.DMK leaders neither denied that talks were on for a DMK-AIADMK alliance nor ruled out the possibility of such a pact between the two Dravidian rivals.When reporters asked DMK organizational secretary T K S Elangovan on reports about such an alliance, he said, "No such decision has been taken. But we will all abide by any decision taken by our leader (Stalin).'' VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan also hinted that discussions were on for an alliance between the two parties. "It has not taken shape yet. Once it takes shape I will comment about it,'' he said, when asked for his views on talks for a DMK-AIADMK tie up. Leaders in the AIADMK camp, however, remained tight-lipped. DMK's resolution at the legislature party meeting noted that the assembly election has produced a verdict in which no party has secured a majority. "This is a sensitive and complicated political situation. As Tamil Nadu is not prepared for another election, DMK's foremost objective is to ensure formation of a stable govt, while keeping away communal forces,'' the resolution said.DMK also came down hard on Congress for walking away from the alliance, equating the party's action to that of BJP's ‘betrayal of alliance parties in other states'. "This once again demonstrates that the Congress party has not changed its old political character,'' the resolution said."Congress did not thank our leader after the victory. Instead, it stabbed us in the back,'' the resolution said. "What BJP does in several states, Congress has now done to us in Tamil Nadu,'' it added.
